She has worked in Education and Theatre teaching in both Canada and Switzerland since 2002, and continues to work in various international, bilingual and theatre schools in Zurich and the surrounding cantons.

She is the lead teacher at Simply Theatre Academy, as well as a LAMDA acting exam coach for the last four years.  She is often called upon to continue working with the same artistic teams repeatedly at various schools for various projects.  An avid set designer and director, Joanne has acted, directed, designed over 115 shows in her life.   She has specialised in Canadian and International curriculum development, teaching of English language and Literature, as well as Dance, Drama and Music, and combined Performing Arts courses to ages three to adult.

Joanne uses the mindfulness practice in all aspects of her teaching. She believes that through mindful classroom practice, students can develop greater focus, handle life stresses, can articulate their feelings, can use better vocabulary, are able to train their mind to fully stay and appreciate the moments in life.  Facilitating this through role play, improvisation, reading, writing and working as a team are vital steps to understand the world, value it’s beauty, and gain a better grasp of our individual place in it.  It is always so amazing to see how kids can become better at self-control, have better self-discipline, become more self-confident, more outspoken and much better communicaters when using these tactics to understand how they feel.  This is turn will turn them into more positive, compassionate and well-rounded empathic individuals, towards themselves and others.

Joanne prides herself on being a very hard worker, self-motivated, creatively inspired by kids ideas, as well as a great team player. When she is not teaching, she can be found knitting, painting, reading, cooking, crafting, paddle boarding, as well as traveling and surfing all over the world.

Sonal Sharma: Social Skills, Mindfulness & Yoga Expert

Sonal Sharma is a Congolese born British yogi with her roots in India and has lived in Sydney, Australia for a number of years before making the sea change to Switzerland.
The love of yoga and mindfulness grew for Sonal when she discovered a warm yoga studio overlooking a beach in Sydney. Practicing whilst watching the sun rise / sun set brought a sense of peace and tranquility which she felt floated through the rest of her week.
Her undergraduate degree was in Psychology after which she specialised in the field of Social Work specifically with children and young people. Her work included trauma informed practices and cognitive behavioural therapy.
During her Social Work career, Sonal developed a passion in alternative medicine, holistic therapies and yoga. After seeing how these could lead to better outcomes in one’s mind, body and soul. Sonal chose to incorporate yoga and alternative healing to guide mindfulness practices for the young persons with whom she works. Teaching children and young people breathing techniques to help regulate their emotions and feel calm and present.
